A competitive scrumhalf with a fl at, accurate pass and the ability to dart through a gap, Sam spent three seasons in France and the UK before returning to the Reds in 2006. Earned a recall to the 2006 Wallabies squad and added another six national caps to his tally before a recurring lisfranc foot injury put him out of action for the whole 2007 Super 14. Won selection in the 2007 Rugby World Cup squad, and played against Fiji and Canada.
