Duncan Paia’aua grew up in Rockhampton, where he played Rugby in high school and twice represented Queensland in Under 16s. The young flyhalf spent two seasons with the Brisbane Broncos under-20s side in the National Youth Competition, before returning to rugby and signing with the Reds for the 2015 season.
After a frustrating initiation to Super Rugby, suffering a concussion after making his debut from the bench against the Brumbies, Paia’aua did not take the field for the Reds again, but was used heavily by the Queensland and Australian Under 20s at outside centre. He also returned to senior rugby with Queensland Country in the NRC.
