The Wallabies are now second on the IRB World Rankings.

The Qantas Wallabies have leapfrogged World Champions South Africa to sit second in the latest edition of the IRB World Rankings released overnight.

The Men of Gold moved up from third after securing their first victory in the Republic since 2000, with a gutsy 27-15 win over the Boks in Durban on Saturday.

New Zealand remain in first position, but the Wallabies will have an opportunity to narrow the gap when they play a Tri Nations "grand final"  against the All Blacks in Brisbane on September 13.

Southern Hemisphere nations continue to dominate the top end of the table, with Argentina remaining in fourth spot despite a 63-9 hammering at the hands of the Springboks earlier this month.

The Six Nations competitors, England, Wales, France, Ireland, Scotland and Italy round out the top ten.
