George Smith has joined together with Brothers of the Ball for tsunami relief

Qantas Wallabies flanker George Smith has banded with a host of other famous sporting personalities, including fellow Wallabies Wycliff Palu and Tatafu Polota-Nau, to raise funds for tsunami victims through a unique collection of elite athletes - Brothers of the Ball.

Brothers of the Ball consist of five men: Smith, league international Nigel Vagana, Convert Promoter Big Sire, Event Producer Michael Gencher and finally actor, entertainer, writer and host for the Brothers of the Ball 2009 event Jay Laga’aia.

“The aim of Brothers of the Ball is simple” explained Smith, “to raise funds to help rebuild our island homes, devastated in the recent earthquake and ensuing tsunami.”

“Brothers of the Ball also hope to be able to provide sporting equipment and musical equipment to schools and churches and communities that were damaged in the disaster.”

“Polynesians have travelled far and wide” he continued, “making their homes where ever they come to shore and yet we have never forgotten the mother land and so we, as a family gather to aid her in there hour of need.”

The quintet will host a lunch on Thursday, 10 December 2009, at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour in which they hope to share a little island flavor with guests and have the opportunity to stage a unique auction, in which items that have been gathered from their vast and varied connections are auctioned off to raise funds to help tsunami victims.

Guests will receive a taste of Polynesia with traditional Dances, hula girls, polynesian food, a Kava Ceremony and music of the Pacific.

There’s also the chance to blend with elite athletes and identities who will speak, share, mix and mingle, interview, be interviewed, offer exclusive auction items and experiences, serve and even entertain.

Funds raised from the event will go to The Red Cross Pacific Tsunami Appeal and be used to support relief, rehabilitation and recovery activities for communities affected by the disaster in Samoa, Tongaand other affected Islands.

Join Smith, Palu, Polota-Nau and Wallabies legend Willie “O”, along with Vagana, Andrew Johns, Wayne Bennett, Roy Asotasi, Moonia Gerard, Tony and Frank Puletua, Bill Woods and more. Hosted by Laga’aia with Special Guest Auctioneer Ray Hadley.

Tickets are $5000 per Table of 10. This price includes a $3000 tax deductible donation to The Red Cross Pacific Tsunami Appeal.
