Story by: ARU
Dean “Mummy” Mumm first came to prominence in 2002 as the captain of the GPS title winning Kings 1st XV. He went on to captain the NSW and Australian Schoolboys the same year.
In 2004 he was a member of the Australian Barbarians squad and toured Argentina with the Waratahs development team. The following season he was a member of the Australian Under 21 team at the IRB World Championships that lost the South Africa in the final and was re-signed by the Waratahs for a further two years.
In 2006 he was a member of the Waratahs development squad that toured the British Isles and in 2007 he made his Super 14 debut for the Tahs against the Lions in Round 1, going on to play 12 of NSW’s 13 matches that year.
The 24-year-old then won selection for Australia A in the Pacific Nations Cup and was a member of the Sydney Fleet in the short-lived Australian Rugby Championships.
Another impressive Super 14 season followed in 2008, earning 196cm, 109kg Mumm a deserved call up to Robbie Deans first Wallaby squad. He became an important member of the squad making his debut against Ireland in Melbourne on June 14th.
Dean went on to play five Tests in 2008 so far, including a vital role in the Wallabies historic Mandela Plate clinching 27-15 victory over the Springboks in Durban, where he came on for the injured Dan Vickerman late in the first half.
