RugbyWA is pleased to announce that Wallaby squad member and ACT Brumbies back rower Scott Fava has agreed to join the Emirates Western Force for next year’s Toohey’s New Super 14 competition.

Fava becomes the 32nd member of the Emirates Western Force squad, with the coaching staff now on the look-out for a winger to finalise the playing group.

The 29 year old finished equal 3rd in this year’s Super 12 Australian Player of the Series award, despite missing the last four games with a broken hand.

This year he also won his second consecutive Brumbies Best Forward award, and has won the Catchpole Medal for best and fairest in the Sydney Premier Rugby competition three years in a row, playing with the Eastwood club.

Fava started his Super 12 career with the Queensland Reds in 1999 and played 5 Super 12 games before switching to the Brumbies in 2002. He’s won 46 Super 12 caps for the Brumbies.

The 108kg No. 8 was selected for the Australia A squad last season but missed the tour to France because of injury.

He played for Australia A in the recent two match series against the Junior All Blacks and is a member of the Wallaby squad, currently in South Africa.

Fava said the decision to leave the Brumbies had not been easy.

“It was a hard decision to make. I’ve been there four years and they helped me become the footballer I am today,” he said.

“My main aim now is to apply that experience at the Western Force.”

Fava said he was attracted west by the lifestyle, the rugby program and the opportunity to be a foundation member.

He said he was encouraged by the recent Western Force jersey launch, where more than 800 people attended a gala luncheon in Perth for the unveiling of the team’s No. 1 and alternate strips.

“The feedback I have from the players that went across was extremely positive. The guys were a little surprised at the huge support for the team. I mean, the first home and away jerseys were auctioned off for a combined sum of $60,000. That’s a lot of support!”

Emirates Western Force coach John Mitchell described Fava as consistent performer with a high work rate.

“He’s a fierce competitor who goes the distance, is solid in defence and dangerous in attack,” he said.

“He also brings lots of experience and plenty of respect. He’ll be a key member of our leadership group.”
