Qantas Wallabies star Matt Giteau will miss Sunday's (AEDT) Test against Wales with a knee injury and will return to Australia early to determine whether he requires surgery.
Giteau looks set for surgery after being injured against England at Twickenham earlier this month. The injury forced him out of the clash with Ireland last weekend and he has been advised to fly home early.
Wallabies coach Eddie Jones says the move to send Giteau home was to ensure he will be fit for the start of the Super 14 season.
"There's a possibility he might need surgery on the knee," Jones told The Sydney Morning Herald.
"If that is the case we want to get him back as quickly as possible so that we can get him right for next year's Super 14 tournament. There's the possibility that he has some damage to the knee joint."
