Gritty forward Tom Connor has been brought into the Australian men's Sevens team in Cape Town as they vie for a podium spot in the second 2018-19 World Series leg.

Connor replaces the injured Tim Anstee in the second World Series leg, after playing in an invitational tournament alongside the Dubai Sevens.

This will be his seventh World Series outing since debuting at last year's Sydney 7s.

Australia opens their campaign against Wales on Saturday night Australian time, facing Scotland and Canada in their other pool games.

Coach Tim Walsh said the side was looking to improve on a top four finish in Dubai when they kick off in South Africa.

“This week for us has been about our mental and physical preparation and making sure we get the right combination of recovery and training after a big first round in Dubai.

“Wales, Canada and Scotland present us three teams with three different styles of Rugby, so our focus is on each moment of each game first and foremost.”

The Cape Town Sevens will be LIVE on FOX SPORTS Channel 506 from Saturday 7pm AEDT.
