The Waratahs will open their 2019 campaign against the Hurricanes at Brookvale Oval, the club announced on Monday.

NSW is looking to lock in venues for eight home games in 2019 as Allianz Stadium's refurbishment begins.

Monday's announcement follows a move to shift three home matches to the new Western Sydney Stadium in 2019 and there is believed to be more regional venues in the mix for the final four matches.

The Waratahs have become somewhat regular visitors to Brookvale Oval in recent years - they have played preseason matches at the northern beaches venue in 2017 and 2018 and also played the Blues in a Super Rugby thriller this year.

NSW Rugby CEO Andrew Hore said they wanted to return to Brookvale after the relative success of last year's clash with the Blues.

“We had a great crowd at Brookie this year, chanting NSW and creating a fantastic atmosphere for the Tahs," he said.

“They love their rugby in that part of the world and it is great to return to the suburbs and kick off our 2019 Super Rugby campaign there.

“We hope to turn the day into an action-packed rugby occasion for everyone to enjoy.

Waratahs and Wallabies captain Michael Hooper grew up in Manly and said he was eagerly anticipating a return to the venue in 2019.

“I remember going there as a kid and always thought what a great place it was to play," he said.

"I’ve been fortunate to now have played there a couple of times with the NSW Waratahs so to go back to Brookie is great.

“I love the fact that we are amongst one of the big rugby communities and we hope that our supporters will come along and help us get the season off to a winning start."
