Australia has been defeated by Canada 17-10 in the Cup semi-final in Langford.
As two of the biggest and the best teams on the circuit in World Rugby, this match was always going to be intense.
Australia got off to a promising start as Sharni Williams ran over in the corner after persistent working of the ball up the field.
The pace and pressure of the contest was high with the hosts being called on to repeatedly defend early.
Ghislaine Landry finally got some space and backed herself all the way to the line to level the scores.
Canada’s star player this season, Julia Greenshields got its second after the half-time siren and the hosts went to the break with a 10-5 lead.
Australia came out firing after the restart, but two massive opportunities to score went begging through intense Canadian defensive efforts.
Dom Du Toit got to the line as Landry laid a smart tackle which prevented the Aussie from grounding the ball.
Then Demi Hayes ran wide to be on the end of a Caslick chip kick but could not secure the ball as it bounced towards the try line.
Errors started to creep in for the Aussies and Charity Williams outran her opposition up the sideline showing the benefit of fresh legs off the bench.

The Aussies closed the gap through a Cassie Staples try in the final minute of the game, but with no conversion and an unsuccessful restart, the game ended with the hometown heroes heading to the Cup Final while the Aussies will play for third place.
Australia will play France in the Bronze Medal Final at 10.04am AEST.

Aussies to play hosts in semi after strong quarter final over USA
Australia has secured a Cup semi-final berth at the HSBC World Series Canada Sevens in Langford after a strong 22-10 win over the USA.
In a different look to day one, Tim Walsh’s starting line-up was loaded with experience.
While the USA scored the opening try through Naya Tapper, the Aussies commanded the majority of the possession to follow with a fast paced game that left the Americans rushing to keep their structure.
Emilee Cherry opened Australia’s account splitting the USA defence and running directly to the posts.
Chloe Dalton got in a final dive to the line to take the Aussies to the break with a 12-5 lead.
If the USA were just staying in touch in the first half, they were left behind in the second as Australia again controlled the ball.
Cherry got her second try for the game, her fourth for the tournament, then Demi Hayes finished off a good passage of play going to the line out wide.
As the final siren sounded, the USA had the last play of the game as Kristen Thomas got a break out wide and ran to the line to put them into double figures, but well short of the winning score.

Australia will play hosts Canada in the semi-final at 7.20am AEST in what will be a huge match for both teams.
