The Brumbies U20s colts opened their Super20s campaign at Viking Park succumbing to the Melbourne Rebels 17-14.
The visitors were determined to put in a strong performance after falling to the Queensland Reds U20s 30-13 last week.
They got off to the perfect start when Fullback Semisi Tupou weaved his way through the Brumbies defence to open the scoring for the Rebels.
Harrison Goddard converted the try to give the Rebels an early 7-0 lead.
For the majority of the half both sides tried to assert their dominance and the Rebels stretched their lead when Goddard converted a penalty to give them extra breathing space.
Vaauli Faamausili crashed over under the posts as the visitors strengthed their grip on the match.
Tevita Unga-Wolske pulled a try back just before half time as Jamie Kotz converted to give the hosts some hope at half time.
The second half began with the home side coming out with a fierce determination to bring themselves back into the contest.
As the rain poured down at Viking Park the defence from both sides held firm as neither team could find a way through.
The Brumbies eventually found a lifeline as a successful scrum allowed Sam Thomas to crawl over and bring the game back to 17-14 with less than two minutes remaining.
The Melbourne Rebels U20s held off the Brumbies U20s 17-14 to give themselves their first win of the Super 20s competition.
