He was the first Melbourne Rebel and prop Laurie Weeks has extended his stay until 2019, re-signing with the club.

Weeks is set to break the club games record this season, surpassing Luke Jones’ 73-game mark reached last year.

Originally a Queensland Red, Weeks opted to move south and sign with the startup franchise, now becoming one of its most important members on and off the field.

“The decision to re-sign with the Rebels was an easy one, I love Melbourne and I love the team," Weeks  said.

"I'm incredibly proud to see how far this team has come from humble beginnings to genuine contenders every time we take the field and I look forward to being a part of an exciting future for the Melbourne Rebels."

Rebels coach Tony McGahan said Weeks was a valuable character to have around the club.

“Laurie is the heart and soul of the Melbourne Rebels,” head coach Tony McGahan said.

“Laurie has developed into a genuine leader at the club and continues to be a role model for his peers with the dedication, spirit and attitude he brings to the Rebels organisation on and off the field every day.”

The Rebels play the Hurricanes this Saturday, kicking off at 3:15pm AEDT.
