Brisbane-born Shannon Parry has been named the Wallaroos World Cup captain for next month’s IRB 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
The 24-year-old dual International will be playing in her second IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup after being a part of the successful Australian side that finished third in 2010.
“It’s very humbling to be named captain of the Wallaroos and I am honoured to captain my country on a World Cup stage,” Parry said.
“During the last World Cup I was the youngest player in the Wallaroos so it’s quite a turnaround in four years.
“I have been very impressed with each member of the Wallaroos team and I know we will do our country proud at the IRB Women’s World Cup.”
FOX SPORTS has secured the rights to broadcast the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup 2014, which kicks off on Friday 1 August in Paris, France.
Australian fans will be able to watch all of the Wallaroos’ matches live and exclusive, continuing FOX SPORTS’ commitment to Women’s XVs Rugby after broadcasting the Women’s Rugby World Cups in 2006 and 2010.
Viewers will be able to enjoy 15 matches from the tournament, featuring all of the powerhouse Rugby nations including New Zealand, England, France and South Africa.
The Wallaroos have been in an intense World Cup preparation camp at the Sydney Academy of Sport in Narrabeen since Monday 21 July.
The Wallaroos depart for Paris this Sunday 27 July.
