The organisers of the Gold Coast Sevens today announced that the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team will play Canada in a three-match series at the adrenaline-filled event on the weekend of 11-12 October.

It will be a rare opportunity for fans to see the national Women’s Sevens stars in action against top-quality international opposition on home soil. The team will boast current IRB Women’s Sevens Player of the Year Emilee Cherry as well as fellow Queenslanders Shannon Parry, Charlotte Caslick and Rachel Crothers.

Captained by Jen Kish, Canada finished third in the 2013/14 IRB Sevens World Series – just one spot behind Australia – and are regarded as one of the fastest growing Rugby Sevens nations in the world.

The three-match series will provide Australia with crucial preparation before they kick off their own Olympic qualification campaign in November in Dubai.

Current IRB Women’s Sevens World Player of the Year Emilee Cherry said: “We don’t get too many chances to play against international teams in Australia, but to do so in my home state of Queensland at Cbus Super Stadium is amazing.

“We’ve had some seriously tough games against Canada over the past year so we’ll be counting on the support of the Aussie fans in the Gold Coast. I can’t guarantee a win, but I can guarantee two quality sides going toe-to-toe, playing fast-flowing, exciting Rugby – just what Sevens is all about!”

Tickets for the Gold Coast Sevens are available to purchase from $50, and are available via Ticketek (www.ticketek.com.au / 132 439)
