The renowned intercept in the Second Test by Wallaby great, Joe Roff has been voted as the biggest turning point of the 2001 British & Irish Lions Series during the their last Tour to Australia. A tour that is still remembered for the edge of the seat, exhilarating Rugby it produced.
This week’s rugby.com.au poll asked fans to choose which they thought was the biggest turning point of the 2001 Test Series. The last Tour to Australia saw many game changing historic Rugby moments and this week’s poll asked fans to select from three of the most memorable, including Joe Roff’s intercept in the Second Test, the ‘Golding’ of the crowd in the Second Test and Justin Harrison’s lineout steal in the third Test.
Roff’s intercept was the obvious choice from the start, securing 49% of fan’s votes after one day of the weekly poll appearing live on rugby.com.au, before remaining on 48% for the rest of the week.
Justin Harrison’s lineout steal came in just behind, nominated by fans as the second biggest turning point with 42% of the votes, followed by the ‘Golding’ of the crowd in the second Test to counteract the Red Army’s takeover in the first Test with 9% of the votes.
Such thrilling turning points defined and augmented the action between the Lions and the Men in Gold during the last 2001 Tour to Australia.
