Blues Super Rugby back Luke McAlister has signed a three-year deal with French rugby club Toulouse.

The 27-year-old will head to France at the conclusion of his 2011 rugby commitments in New Zealand.

McAlister returned to New Zealand in 2009 after spending two years with the Sale Sharks in Manchester.

"At the end of my Sale contract I returned home to be near my family. This year, I've really enjoyed my season with the Blues and I'm glad it's not over yet," McAlistern said.

"Looking ahead, the opportunity to play French rugby and live in France with my partner and children will be something totally different to what we're all used to, but it will be an exciting new chapter in our lives."

McAlister has 30 All Blacks' Test caps and 48 games for the Blues.

He made his All Blacks' debut in 2005 in the third Test against the British and Irish Lions.

McAlister has represented New Zealand in three other national sides - New Zealand Maori, Colts and Junior All Blacks.
