The Wallabies have annihilated the Springboks 49-0 at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night, running in six tries and keeping the South Africans scoreless for only the second time in the two teams' history.
Australia's backline was simply superb, man-of-the-match Matt Giteau scoring two tries, while Jeremy Paul, Greg Holmes, Chris Latham and Mark Chisholm also crossed.
Stirling Mortlock added 16 points with the boot to help the Wallabies keep their Tri-Nations' hopes alive after their disappointing 32-12 loss to the All Blacks in the series opener.
The forecast showers came just before kickoff and made conditions difficult for the players, both sides making several handling errors in the opening stages.
Stephen Larkham opened the scoring after eight minutes with a 40-metre drop goal, before the kicking woes continued for Mortlock.
The Australian vice-captain had worked on his kicking during the week, but his first attempt missed its mark, slamming into the upright and back into play.
Latham's boot was red hot, the fullback's massive 60m kick for touch giving the Wallabies a line-out just five metres from their line.
Paul then crossed for the opening try of the night on the back of a rolling maul, and Mortlock found his range to give Australia a 10-0 lead.
Another superb Wallabies kick set up the next score, Percy Montgomery coughing up a cross-field kick just metres from the Australian line.
Moments later Australia received a penalty and Mortlock dutifully converted from directly in front.
Some superb Wallabies team work then led to Holmes' try, with Larkham stepping the Springbok defence and offloading to skipper George Gregan, who then sent the forward over.
South Africa was reduced to 14 men on the half-hour when Victor Matfield was sin-binned for a deliberate knock-on, and Giteau wasted little time making them pay, dancing around the defence to score his first.
Trailing 30-0 at half-time, the visitors came out full of flare in the second half, dominating the first ten minutes but blowing several scoring opportunities.
Their best chance came when they had a scrum five metres from the Wallabies' line, but Australia pinched the ball back and relieved the pressure.
Jaque Fourie also looked like scoring when he broke clear through the middle, but some wayward passes again ensured they remained scoreless.
With the South African attack subdued, Australia counter-punched and would have gone further ahead on the scoreboard had it not been for the efforts of Fourie Du Preez, who held up both Sam Cordingley and Nathan Sharpe in goal.
Finally, however, Australia crossed again, Latham dotting down, and the floodgates opened with Giteau crossing for his second before Chisholm completed the rout.
