The Sharks have remained unbeaten in this season’s Investec Super 14 with a 22-17 victory over the Blues in Durban on Saturday night.
With both teams undefeated going into the round, the contest could well of been a preview of what is to come in the semi-final in May, but it was the Sharks who took the points in a match played at high speed and skill.
The home side got off to a perfect start when Keegan Daniel scored a long range try in the first minute.
The Sharks doubled their advantage when lock Johann Muller added another try, before Daniel claimed his second when he took a tap penalty and dug under the defence to score.
The visitors got on the board through a Nick Evans kicked a penalty in the 37th minute, but the Sharks led 19-3 at the break.
Evans got his team back in the contest when he accepted a good pass from Danny Lee and scored between the sticks, to narrow the deficit to 19-10.
The Sharks edged further ahead through a Rory Kockott penalty but a Taniela Moa try for the Blues with only four minutes remaining set up a frantic finale.
However, the Sharks's defence held firm as they go top of the ladder.
Sharks 22 (Keegan Daniel 2, Johann Muller tries; Rory Kockott 2 cons, pen) defeated Blues 17 (Nick Evans, Taniela Moa tries; Evans 2 cons, pen).
