The Crusaders have again underlined their 2008 Investec Super 14 title ambitions with a shut-out 22-0 victory over the Stormers in Cape Town this morning (Australian time).
In what looked a mismatch on paper, with the table-topping Crusaders playing the 14th ranked Stormers, it was the home team that looked brightest and only some well-organised defence from the Cantabrians kept the Stormers at bay.
However, normal service soon resumed and the Crusaders started the scoring through a Dan Carter penalty before Andrew Ellis darted over in the corner after a well-worked maul.
Penalties either side of half time by Carter gave the visitors a comfortable 14-0 lead.
The mercurial flyhalf was then involved in the moment of the match when he placed an accurate cross field kick into the hands of replacement Sean Maitland who had an easy run to the line.
Another Carter penalty after a Ricky Januarie infringement ended the scoring, 22-0.
With three consecutive victories, including two in South Africa, to start the competition the Crusaders will now travel to Perth for a meeting with the Western Force.
The Stormers, kept scoreless for the first time in the tournaments history, will need to get their campaign back on track in a hurry when they play the Reds in Brisbane next week.
