The Hurricanes have recorded back-to-back Investec Super 14 victories after a 39-19 defeat of local rivals, the Chiefs, in Wellington on Friday.
The platform for victory was set up by a blistering first half performance that saw tries to Ma’a Nonu, Alby Mathewson, Jimmy Gopperth and Shannon Paku set up a 26-5 lead after half an hour.
Despite Stephen Donald and Tanerau Latimer crossing for the visitors to narrow the deficit to seven points, the Hurricanes lifted a gear and a further two tries to captain Rodney So'oialo and Chris Masoe sealed victory. A drop goal Tane Tu'ipulotu after the siren put the icing on an impressive hot-out for the Wellington-based Hurricanes.
Worringly for the Chiefs, captain Jono Gibbes appeared to sustain a serious leg injury in the first half.
