A dynamic second-half display, led by George Gregan, has given the Wallabies a convincing 31-0 victory over Wales in the second Test at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Saturday night.

The former skipper came on at half-time to inject confidence and stability into the Wallabies attack after skipper Stirling Mortlock was the only scorer in a dour and scrappy first half with two penalties.

The second half was all Wallabies, with the rampant green and golds piling on 25 unanswered points that included some slick team tries to debutant Digby Ioane, Julian Huxley and Drew Mitchell to give the Brisbane crowd of 41,622 plenty to cheer about.

The victory snared the Wallabies a 2-0 series win and the inaugural James Bevan Trophy and they can now look forward to a different challenge from Fiji on June 9 at Subiaco Oval, Perth.

After a slow and error ridden start to the game by both teams Wallabies skipper Stirling Mortlock was able to kick two penalties while Welsh superboot James Hook missed an easy penalty giving Australia a 6-0 lead after 18 minutes.

The second quarter was highlighted with poor handling and the referee's whistle, with  New Zealand referee Paul Honiss frequently interrupting proceedings while the Welsh were struck by two serious injuries with Welsh outside centre Jamie Robinson and young winger Chris Czekaj both leaving the field.

The Wallabies started the second half in style with Mortlock kicking a penalty in the 42nd minute, and just three minutes later, debutant winger Digby Ioane scored a try in the right corner.

After good phase play, big No 8 and man-of-the-match Wycliff Palu ,scooped the ball from the base of the ruck to slip a nice pass to ranging lock Nathan Sharpe out wide. Sharpe sprinted into space, drew the defence and offloaded to a Huxley, who drew the last defender to send the flyer Ioane in for a try. Mortlock missed from the sideline giving the Wallabies a 14-0 lead after 45minutes.

Ten minutes later, the Wallabies were gifted a penalty in front of the posts after a high tackle on Matt Giteau. Mortlock converted the chance to give Australia a strong 17-0 lead.

The Wallabies started to find rhythm and holes in the Welsh defence. A turnover and quick passing saw the ball making it to Nathan Sharpe again and he slipped a great ball to speedster Mitchell, who got on the outside of Welsh lock Robert Sidoli to run in a 55-metre converted try to give Australia a comfortable 24-0

Gregan, who was having a huge impact on Australia's go-forward, delivered a beautiful inside ball to Huxley, who ran into a gap before chip-kicking over the head of the Welsh No 9 Mike Phillips and regathering courtesy of a great bounce to dive over for 29-0 lead with Mortlock's conversion still to come.

Both teams attacked strongly in the final ten minutes of the game with Wales' hard-working flanker Colin Charvis being held up over the line after the siren.
