Wallaroos Name Team for NZ Test
ARU Media Release
Monday, 15 October 2007
The Australian Women’s Rugby team – the Wallaroos - has today named their team to play New Zealand in the first of two Tests in Wanganui on Tuesday.
Fourteen of the starting XV are veterans of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Canada last year, while Tui Ormsby’s selection at centre marks her first Test appearance since playing in the 2002 World Cup in Barcelona.
Cheryl Soon will captain the side for the first time, while Kim Wilson and Tricia Brown share the vice-captaincy.
Four players, Megan Valler, Cassandra Nunn, Louise Morrison and Kylie Pennell are set to make their Test debuts from the bench.
The trans-Tasman rivals will contest the Laurie O'Reilly Memorial Trophy. The trophy is named in honour of the former Black Ferns selector and one of the pioneers of women’s rugby in New Zealand.
The Wallaroos warmed up for the Test with a solid 16-8 victory over Central NZ Regions in Palmerston North on Saturday, with Lisa Fiaola and American-born Chris Ross crossing for tries.
