Southern Districts fullback Paul Asquith was one of the standout players for the Rams, showing the kind of talents and ability that saw him as part of the Australian Men’s Seven program between 2012 and 2015. His strong NRC season saw him picked up by the Melbourne Rebels for the 2016 season, with coach Tony McGahan commenting at the time that Asquith’s “skill set and versatility will add depth to our backline.”

Originally hailing from south of Wollongong, Asquith used to make the 180 kilometre return trip from the coast to Southern Districts training several times a week. That focus and drive was well rewarded, with Asquith named the Rams’ best back for the 2015 NRC, and named in Darren Coleman’s Australian Barbarians side that toured New Zealand.
