Captain of the inaugural Sydney Stars team and the first signing for the 33-man squad for the first season of the NRC, McCutcheon brings a wealth of experience from a rugby career played at numerous different levels, including Super Rugby, Australia Sevens, and even back in the old Australian Rugby Championship, as a 20-year-old in 2007.

McCutcheon was named captain of the Australian Sevens team for the 2009/10 season, and led the side to a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. He made his Super Rugby debut in the same year and went on to represent the Australian Barbarians against England and earning selection on the Wallabies Spring Tour of Hong Kong and Europe.
