With a sole appearance at the Queensland Reds before signing a deal to move south and join the Rebels as the youngest member of their 2015 squad, Placid in that same year represented Australia at his third straight World Rugby U20s Championship. Capable of lining up anywhere in the back three, Placid played a starring role in Melbourne University's rise to premiership in the 2015 Dewar Shield, after also starring for the 2014 Melbourne Rising side which won the minor premiership in the inaugural NRC.

Placid, who grew up in Rockhampton and was schooled at Toowoomba Grammar, representing the Australian Schoolboys in 2012, played a key role for the Rising in the 2015 NRC and is one of the most exciting young players in the both the Rising and Rebels squads.
