Biography

Powell was elevated into the Brumbies’ Super Rugby squad in 2015 when injury struck the squad. He made his debut against the Rebels at GIO Stadium just a week after his 21st birthday and went on to appear in three matches for the side he has supported his whole life. In 2016, Powell will link with the Brumbies on an Extended Playing Squad contract. In 2014, Powell was a member of the Australian U20s side which contested the Junior World Cup in New Zealand, impressing many onlookers with his performances at the tournament. He capped a big year by winning the local competition with the Tuggeranong Vikings and was selected as one of the youngest players in the Vikings squad for the inaugural National Rugby Championship. A year later he proved a stand-out performer and was rewarded with the side’s Best Back award. Powell had been working as an apprentice carpenter before putting down the tools to focus on his rugby career with the Brumbies.
