Biography

Adam Thomson joins the club ahead of the 2016 Super Rugby season, tasked with bringing additional experience and leadership to a young Rebel team that made significant progress in 2015. Capable of playing anywhere in the back row, the 2011 Rugby World Cup winner has made 83 Super Rugby appearances for the Highlanders and Reds, scoring 21 tries in the process, and has played 29 tests for the All Blacks. Thomson played alongside compatriot Tamati Ellison for both the Highlanders and All Blacks. Born in Ashburton, around an hour’s drive from Christchurch in New Zealand’s South Island, Thomson attended Christchurch Boys High School where he played 1st XV rugby alongside Dan Carter. He represented New Zealand at schoolboys, U19, U21, university and Sevens levels, and in 2015, topped the tackle count and ranked third for carries at the Reds, while only Sharks lock Marco Wentzel stole more lineouts from opposition throws.
