Bond Uni has stars on and off the field

Bond University has named a strong line-up, including some impressive proven talent, ahead of the August 25 kick-off for the inaugural Aon Uni7s competition.

The 23-player squad boasts local, national and international pedigree with Aussie Sevens representation from Brooke Walker and the 2016 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year Charlotte Caslick, ably supported by Irish import Stacey Flood and Wallaroo Millie Boyle.

The experienced star-power will not only be on the field but also coming from the man directing from the sidelines in the form of head coach Ben Gollings.

Gollings is a legend of international sevens having represented England for over a decade playing in 70 World Sevens Series tournaments and still holds the all-time points scoring record of 2652 points.

His experience gained in coaching over recent years at the international level combined with some recognised fire-power on the field makes the Bond University team one of the strongest contenders of the eight competing in this first Uni7s series.

Gollings recognises the advantage gained through the quality players in his squad but also sees the opportunity for the university’s developing athletes to make their mark.

"The Series will be a prime opportunity for up-and-coming Bond athletes to showcase their skills on a national stage and with such a stellar line-up of players on our side, we would like to be finishing in the top three by the end of the season," he said.

What will be of interest is if the perceived player impact on paper translates on to the field.
