Sevens to face Kiwis in Bendigo

The Aussie Sevens women are set to play a blockbuster series against their most fierce rivals in October, taking on New Zealand in Bendigo.

Coming off the back of the Uni Sevens, the Aussies will be keen to test some fresh talent against their trans-Tasman foes.

The squads will play five matches across three days in the regional centre, taking some of the best international talent to the country for the first time.

Sevens coach Tim Walsh said the series would be a great hit-out in preparation for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, both for players and fans.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to take our game to Bendigo and we are really looking forward to this three-match series against New Zealand.

“The Commonwealth Games on our home soil is a key target for our side and this tournament will serve as excellent preparation as we continue to build towards the Gold Coast.

“Outside of the games the team is really looking forward to meeting younger girls in the region and we will be sure to be engaging the local Bendigo community to play and enjoy our great game of Rugby.

The women will be conducting coaching clinics in Bendigo in the lead-up to the series.
