Waratahs halfback Nick Phipps should be fit to play in the June Series, after scans cleared him of a serious ankle injury.

Phipps was taken off early in the second half of the Waratahs' 44-28 loss to the Highlanders on Saturday night after rolling the joint.

Scans on Monday showed the halfback had not suffered any long-term damage and should he get through the Waratahs' Thursday training run, he will be named to face the Chiefs.

Phipps is expected to be named in Michael Cheika's Wallabies squad on Tuesday night as well, ahead of their opening June Test against Fiji in Melbourne on June 10.

The 28-year-old had provided plenty of spark for NSW in his time on the field, though his replacement in Jake Gordon stepped up in the latter stages.

NSW's third halfback, Matt Lucas, remained in Sydney this week and at this stage has not been called over as injury cover.
