Nick Stiles has ripped shreds off his bench's output after his team fell to its fifth straight loss against the Hurricanes last night.
Hendrik Tui, Lukhan Tui, Andrew Ready and Nick Frisby all made critical errors when they entered the fray last night and Stiles said changes would be made ahead of Queensland's crucial clash with the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday.
"I couldn't be more disappointed with the performance of the bench," he said.
"It takes 23 guys in modern day rugby to win football games.
"It's not just about your starting XV, it's about all 23 and going into this game with a couple minor changes that we made, I thought our bench would be a really good contributor to us."I was just really disappointed with their performances when they came on and I told them that in the change rooms.
"Those guys come on fresh, they have to come on and contribute and it wasn't good enough.
While Stiles made it clear that he did not entertain the thought of last night's effort being a courageous loss, he was pleased with his starting XV's performance.
"Last year we probably lose that game by 70 points, I reckon easily," he said.
"I want to be really clear, I'm not into courageous losses."The team that we are trying to build here and the culture that we are building is definitely not happy with a courageous loss - we are here to win football games."
After a horrific opening quarter the Reds stuck with a misfiring Hurricanes team for the majority of the match, only for the Barrett brothers to blow the game out late.
Stiles highlighted several areas where his team showed signs of life as the Reds push forward and attempt to resurrect a 1-5 record through six rounds.
"But I thought we finally started to stick to our structures of how we wanted to play football and we started to get continuity.
"We knew the Hurricanes would fly off the defensive line, we knew that would be the case so we wanted our forwards to carry really hard and tight to get us over that ad line and make the Canes backpedal.
"We did that really well and we found some good spaces on the edges and I was happy with that.
"Then you get into the second half where we were playing some really exciting football but we got sucked in a bit too much in trying to play like the Canes."
