The Australian Steelers have continued their perfect Paralympic start, beating host nation Brazil 72-45 on Friday.

While the matgin blew out, it was a tight contest to start with, the  home crowd boosting  the Brazilians, with the Aussies just one point up at the first break.

Steelers captain Ryan Scott was disappointed with Australia’s start but praised his side’s efforts to break away with a convincing win.

“It was a tough start, but we weren’t surprised. We knew it would be. We haven’t played them since the start of the year and we knew they would improve for the Games and we knew it was going to take some time to get used to what was going on out there,” Scott said.

“The crowd got right behind them, they were pumped up and it was just one of those things.

“Before we arrived in Rio, I never thought we would be playing in front of crowds like that.  I’d love to play in front of crowds like that every week.

Australia takes on fellow heavyweights, Canada, to decide the top spot in their pool.

Scott is expecting an intense battle against the Canadians who have a strong rivalry with Australia dating back to the 2012 gold medal match, which Australia won.
