The ARU’s top community coaching gong will be renamed in honour of Wallabies Hall of Famer Geoff ‘Bunter’ Shaw.

The  Geoff “Bunter” Shaw Community Coach of the Year Award recognises coaches around the country who give up their time to develop rugby talent in their communities.

‘Bunter’ played 68 matches for Australia, including nine Tests as captain before transitioning into a coaching career. Bunter was inducted into the Wallaby Hall of Fame in 2012.

ARU General Manager of Community Rugby & Participation Growth Andrew Larratt said the award was a way to acknowledge the hard work of those in the community.

“This award is a fantastic opportunity for the ARU to recognise the great commitment of our coaches within local communities. They are the unsung heroes of our game, and are the people who are shaping the future of rugby in Australia,” he said.

Entries for the 2016 Geoff ‘Bunter’ Shaw Community Coach of the Year Award close on October 14 2016. Nominate here.
