Overseas-based Wallabies are descending on Australia, as the first Bledisloe Cup match approaches.

The Wallabies don’t officially go into camp until early next month but plenty of the Europe-based players are already in Australia training.

Drew Mitchell has been back in Sydney for some weeks, on the road to recovery after groin surgery earlier this year.

The winger was joined by a familiar face, with Wallabies backrower Ben McCalman working his way back from a scapula injury suffered in the June Test series.

His fellow Wallabies back Adam Ashley-Cooper has also returned to Australia, after a European holiday that gave him a chance to refresh at the end of a year-long season.

Test players involved in Super Rugby, outside of the Brumbies, will have a week off training before getting together in their own state-based camps ahead of the official start of the Rugby Championship camp.

Will Genia and Quade Cooper were temporarily reunited in Queensland last week, posting a shot training together in Ballymore.

Genia spent time in Mauritius at the World Rugby 10s, a competition won by the Force, before coming home to Australia.

The scrumhalf wasn’t considered for June’s England Tests after a knee injury curtailed his Top 14 season with Stade Francais.

Cooper has since come down to Sydney to continue his training and build up match fitness after a patchy Top 14 season, in which he saw little game time for Toulon.

Matt Giteau has remained in Toulon to train ahead of the Test series but Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has repeatedly indicated that all the Europe-based Wallabies from the World Cup will be brought back for this Test series.

The Wallabies opening Test is on August 20 against New Zealand, before a second Bledisloe in Wellington a week later.
