Jarryd Hayne and Fiji face a must-win clash against Australia later on day one, with a victory all but ensuring progression into the Cup draw.

Hayne again had just three minutes of action, with Fiji coach Ben Ryan easing him into Sevens Rugby.

The code convert had more involvements this time around though, with a couple of silky offloads.

Wales started their Pool B game against Fiji with all the possession knowing defeat could potentially spell disaster for Fiji’s World Series title defence.

Luke Morgan burst down the left edge for Wales but was tackled into touch just centimetres shy of the tryline.

Isake Katonibau coughing up the chance to open the scoring, knocking on in the process of diving over the tryline for Fiji.

The Olympic Gold Medal favourites didn’t have to wait long to finally get over though, as Samisoni Viriviri bursting through to give Fiji a 7-nil lead before flyer Jerry Tuwai went all himself to double the margin at the break.

Viliame Mata took just 30 seconds to extend the lead to 21-0 in the second half after claiming the kickoff and fending his way through.

Mata grabbing a double as Wales began to tire, with Fiji coach Ben Ryan starting to shuffle his team around.

Wales bounced back to score down their left edge with Hayne outnumbered in defence, allowing Morgan Williams to dive over.

But that was as close as Wales would get as Fiji turned on the afterburners to eventually run away 42-5 victors.

Fiji next face Australia at 2.54am AEST.
