Colby Fainga'a re-signs with Melbourne Rebels

Rebels back rower Colby Fainga'a has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2018 season.

The 24-year-old has 65 Super Rugby caps, 31 of those with the Rebels over a five season career.

Fainga'a appeared in every Rebels match last season, starting in seven of those matches and scoring a try.

A long-term prospect for Melbourne, Fainga'a's leadership qualities were recognised when he was appointed co-captain of the Melbourne Rising in last year's NRC competition.

Fainga'a said he didn't have to think much about stretching his time in the Rebels colours.

“It was an easy decision for me to extend my time with the Rebels for another two years, I’m settled in Melbourne and enjoying my time here,” he said.

“The club is full of quality players, there’s so much competition for positions in the Rebels backrow which is really pushing all of us to become better and driving me to constantly lift my game.”

Rebels general manager of rugby operations Baden Stephenson said the club was thrilled to retain the signature of their 2014 Player of the Year.

“We’re very pleased to have locked in Colby through until 2018, it’s a huge coup and great way to kick off the Super Rugby season this week,” Rebels General Manager, Rugby Operations Baden Stephenson said.

“Colby has been an integral member of this club since joining the Rebels and continues to develop himself as a consistent player and leader on and off the field.”
