The Aquis Brumbies are coming off a heart breaking loss to the Blues last weekend, after a penalty kick to win after the siren was missed by halfback Nic White.
The task for the Brumbies against the Melbourne Rebels won’t be any easier, with a host of big name players ruled out by injury. Matt Toomua, Scott Sio and James Dargaville were struck down by injury against the Blues, joining the likes of Tevita Kuridrani and Jesse Mogg already watching from the sidelines.
Aquis Brumbies Head Coach, Stephen Larkham, has made five changes to the starting line-up and seven changes all together in the match day 23. When injuries hit, chances are given, and this is proven with the likes of Michael Dowsett, Nigel Ah Wong and former Australian Men’s Sevens player Lausii Taliauli set to start for the first time on Saturday night.
Dowsett replaces Qantas Wallabies halfback Nic White who has been ruled out by injury, although originally names on the reserves bench.
“Over the last three years I think we’ve been able to improve the depth at the Brumbies so when injuries do come along they can be filled and we don’t miss a beat.” Dowsett said.
“As one of the guys coming into the starting side I’m excited by my opportunity I’ve been presented. We’ve been training for this since November, so with the knowledge we’ve got under our belts there shouldn’t be any issues for us in doing our jobs.”
Heading into round 10 of Asteron Life Super Rugby action, the Aquis Brumbies sit on top of the Australian conference ladder, seven points clear of second placed NSW Waratahs.
