Round three of the Junior Gold Cup continued this round with Sydney West, Brisbane Pink and Logan scoring impressive wins as the tournament edges closer to the business end of the season.

The Illawarra based sides turned around their performances quickly with strong showings against Sydney West. Going down in the Under 15s 22-12 and in the Under 17s 57-8, there were some strong positives to take from the matches.

Sydney West continued this success against the Central Coast in both divisions, with a close game in Under 15s and dominating in the Under 17s.

In Pool B, Hunter suffered a narrow 26-29 loss to Sydney South Harbour in the Under 15s. The Under 17s side also suffered a 12-45 loss to Sydney South.

ACT dominated Sydney North West in both Under 15s and Under 17s to gain the win in both divisions.

Brisbane Purple kept Ipswich scoreless in the Under 15s division 0-17, while Ipswich stole the win from Brisbane Purple in the Under 17s (10-19).

Ipswich Under 15s again remained scoreless against Darling Downs losing 0-17, while the Ipswich Under 17s dominated again against the Darling Downs coming home with a 13-7 win.

Darling Downs Under 15s secured another win against Sunshine Coast 5-38, with the Under 17s match resulting in a 13-all draw.

The Gold Coast based sides have had an impressive run up to round three with both age groups coming in on top of the table. The Under 15s had two impressive wins against Logan and North Coast, while Under 17s lost their match against Logan 7-18, but redeemed themselves with a dominating game against North Coast.

Sydney North Coast quietly confident of success

Sydney North Harbour JGC Coordinator, Julius Ambat feels that both the Under 15s and Under 17s sides have built a great platform for potential success in the second year of the JGC.

“I think the squad has gelled well as a team both in the 15s and the 17s.” Ambat said to ARU Media.

“A lot of the guys have improved out of sight since the beginning of the program and both teams are looking forward to the challenges coming up in the next few weeks.

The Sydney North Harbour Teams will take on Victoria on Friday 6 March at Blackman Park, Lane Cove.

“There is sense of NSW pride in taking on another state and representing the Sydney region”, Ambat continues.

“Patrick Pellegrini from Randwick Rugby club has been leading the Under 17s from flyhalf both with the ball in hand and also in defence.

“We have some great confidence that we can make a charge for the finals and we are quietly confident of potential future success.

“Everyone has had a very positive experience in the JGC.

“The Coaches have been outstanding with Michael Kline (Under 15s) and Ben Manion (Under 17s) doing a brilliant job with both our sides."
