An 80th minute Drew Mitchell try gave Toulon a critical Champions Cup win over Wasps on Monday morning (AEDT).

A 70th minute Wasps try had put Toulon down by three points, with the French side given hope after a missed Jimmy Gopperth conversion.

Mitchell finished off a last-gasp Toulon attack putting them at the top of their Champions Cup pool, with one round robin match left

The result stretched Toulon’s unbeaten home streak to 18 matches and reversed the result of the side’s last match up in November, when Toulon was handed a heavy defeat.

It was a good night for Toulon’s Wallabies contingent, with flyhalf Quade Cooper scoring the side’s only other try of the night.

Coming in the 13th minute, Cooper found himself on the end of a Josa Tuisova offload to open the scoring of the night.

It was Cooper’s first five-pointer for his new side, kickstarting his best outing for the team since signing.

The 27-year-old played 51 minutes in the match, replaced by Freddie Michalak for the final stages.

It wasn’t such a great night for Wallabies veteran George Smith, playing for Wasps, handed a yellow card in the 22nd minute for a shoulder charge on Bryan Habana.

Smith’s Wasps are now second in the pool, on the same competition points as Toulon.

Capped Wallabies winger Taqele Naiyaravoro came on for the final 21 minutes of Glasgow’s 10-15 loss to Northampton.

The defeat puts Glasgow’s chances of a quarter-final spot on a knife’s edge, trailing the second-placed Saints by four points with one match left.
