The 'Spirit of Rugby' relates to the feelings and thoughts we have about the magnificent 'running game' and the respect that we as individuals afford to all that are involved with the sport. In essence the 'Spirit of Rugby' is about honesty, integrity, fairness and high principles.
Greg Chambers, PDHPE Teacher, Quirindi High School, NSW
The Spirit of Rugby is an ethos of standing together with people who share the same goals, to face challenges and seek excellence. When facing adversity, it is to remember the kinship and tradition of those who have preceded you so that you cannot bend, you must hold on. The shared values of teamwork, tradition and integrity form 'The spirit of Rugby'.
Steve Wilson, Head of Department - HPE and Sport, Wynnum North State High School, Qld
The Spirit of Australian Rugby is the Spirit of Mateship. It is the same spirit that allows players and spectators alike to become one with the game. Whether teammate, opponent or bystander Australians recognise the quintessential fact that each is a player in the larger game of life. This spirit is thus inclusive rather than divisive, evolutionary rather than static. With each generation a new layer of mateship in Rugby is born. It is thus the duty of the Australian Rugby family to perpetuate and nurture this culture. This is the Spirit which defines our code of football and raises its value within today's society to greater heights. This is the defining spirit of Rugby in our country.

As a school involved in Saturday rugby, the SPIRIT that this great team game builds has been a catalyst for both camaraderie and humour amongst the boys and girls. Our sole girl in the Prep. 1sts has been a particular inspiration. Winning at all costs hasn't surfaced as the coaching staff emphasise doing the best for your mates. Overall another great season with negligible injuries (from an organiser's point of view).
