Four students from Canberra took on the exciting role of being a Junior Sports Reporter at an Investec Bank Super 14 match earlier this year. They were able to meet media and tour the facilities, take photos from the field of play, and interview a player after the match.

The Students were from four different schools across Canberra, and were nominated by their teachers. On arrival to the Brumbies V Cheetahs match, they were greeted by ACT Brumbies Media Manager Nick Smith, and shown the ‘backstage’ of an International Rugby Game.

After taking some photos of the warm up, the students were able to remain in the entrance tunnel, as the players from both teams ran out onto the field to play.

Once the match was over, students were able to interview Ben Alexander, the Try-Scoring Prop from the Brumbies.

As part of their experience, students had to write articles about the event. Please read through the great work that they did.

In addition, one student proved his ability as having a potential future in photography. His image gallery from the night is attached.

Do you have students who have an interest in Sports Media?

The EdRugby Junior Reporter program provides students with an interest in media the opportunity to access a Qantas Wallabies promotional event as an official EdRugby media representative.

Following the event, students will be asked to compose a media article about their experience, which will be published on our website.

In 2010, there will be an opportunity for Students to be a Junior Reporter in each Test Match City. Students will have to demonstrate their interest by submitting an example of their Junior Reporter work. This can be a school match report, a photo of players in action, or a sample of questions to ask the Qantas Wallabies.
