Rugby dot pointInspirational Rugby quotes and poems. A collection of quotes and poems from Rugby writers and former players - including former Wallaby Captain, Michael Lynagh - used in a 2003 Australian Rugby Union desk calendar.

The calendar was created to grow interest and excitement about the Rugby World Cup 2003 across the Rugby community.
 

Suggested learning activities

  1. Read the inspirational Rugby quotes and poems with students.
  2. Ask students to select one of the Rugby quotes or poems to work on. Ask students to write answers to the following questions in their notebook.
    • What is the issue the author trying to communicate?
    • What does the issue mean to you? You can use personal examples or stories to help you explain your point of view.
    • Who do you think the author is? E.g. A player? Rugby enthusiast?
  3. Invite students to share their points of view with the class and encourage discussion about the importance of several aspects of sport and competition incluing friendship, loyalty, sharing and memories.
  4. Work with students to develop a class book of inspirational quotes and poems which could include original student contributions and/or other sporting quotes and poems.
