What is Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools?

Vocational Education and Training in Schools is nationally recognised training that is made available to secondary school students, as part of their normal school curriculum.

It provides students with the opportunity to complete their secondary education with practical work skills and credit towards, or attainment of, a vocational education and training qualification.

It improves their employment opportunities, whereby they value the area of work they are involved in, find employment or go on to further vocational training or university.

 

How can Rugby be incorporated into Vocational Education and Training?

You can include Rugby VET certificate courses within your senior PE/Recreation subjects/units of work to assist students interested in a career in Rugby further their employment prospects.

A Certificate II in Sport (Career-orientated Participation), is the perfect qualification for those students interested in a career as a professional Rugby player.

It provides students with many learning experiences including the ability to perform the intermediate skills of Rugby Union, develop a career goal setting plan and implement injury prevention techniques.

A Certificate II in Sport (Officiating) is designed for those students interested in refereeing and adjudicating the game of Rugby.

At the completion of the certificate students will be competent in many areas including interpreting and applying the fundamental rules of the game, applying various communication strategies for refereeing Rugby and maintaining sport and recreation facilities.

A Certificate II in Sport and Recreation provides students with the opportunity to gain employment within Rugby Club structures in the areas of administration, sales and merchandise, venue and ground maintenance, and hospitality.
