Club case studies
Last year's Ready for Rugby promotion uncovered some great ideas and stories about what junior Rugby clubs were doing to promote their sign-on days and generally let people in their community know about Rugby.
Here are just a couple of examples of what clubs around Australia did to kick off the 2005 Rugby season.
We look forward to hearing about what clubs get up to this season!
Southern Lakes Junior Rugby Club
The Southern Lakes Hammerheads Junior Rugby Club on the NSW Central Coast kicked off its 2005 start of season activity by strategically placing an 8 foot tall cut out of a hammerhead shark promoting its sign-on days on a main road in the area. Herbie, the club's mascot, also helped out. The club also advertised its sign-on days through all local media sources and on its website, offered an early bird registration discount to new and returning players and sent a "Welcome to Southern Lakes" newsletter to all players.
Grenfell Junior Rugby Union Club
Grenfell Junior Rugby Union Club in central west NSW began its 2005 Rugby season with a visit from the local Rugby Development Officer. In the lead up to the club's sign-on day, the DO visited local schools and media. The club's registration night included sausage sizzle and lots of Rugby fun and games for kids and parents!
Mandurah Pirates Junior Rugby Union Club
With the announcement of Perth as the fourth Australian Super Rugby team in late 2004, Mandurah Pirates Junior Rugby Union Club on Perth's southern outskirts kicked off the 2005 season with a bang! The club offered discounted registration fees for those players who signed up on registration day, placed advertisements in the local papers in the lead up to the sign on day, handed out flyers at the local shopping centre and contacted all of the previous year's players to invite them back to the club for the upcoming season.
