Orientation
Taking up a new position is a critical period for new volunteers and the organisation. A well-designed orientation process reduces stress on new volunteers, makes the volunteer feel welcome and may reduce the likelihood of turnover. It is important that the volunteers are told when and where the orientation will take place.
The orientation should include:
Being welcomed to the Club
Providing a copy of their position description and explanation of the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of their new position
Providing an orientation guidebook or kit, including
-copy of the constitution,
-strategic and operational plans,
-relevant policies and procedures,
-annual report,
-copies of current newsletter,
-recent marketing/promotional material, and
-ARU Membership form (ensure registration details are entered into the MyRugbyAdmin database)
An explanation of the day-to-day operation of the Club
Introduce key volunteers and/or staff within the Club
Outline the roles and responsibilities of key volunteers and staff
Familiarise volunteers with facilities, equipment and resources
Explain and ‘walk through’ emergency and evacuation procedures
