Rugby Officials' Perceptions

Rugby Officials' Perceptions of the Home Advantage: A Cross Cultural Comparison.

Research has suggested that a ‘home advantage’ exists within sport; this is the robust phenomenon whereby teams perform consistently better at home than at away venues (i.e. winning more games scoring more goals/points). Many factors have been considered as explanations (e.g. travel/fatigue factors when playing away, increased crowd support at home, and venue familiarity).

The aim of this cross-cultural and cross-sport study conducted by researchers at Northumbria University, UK  is to investigate rugby and football officials' perceptions of the causes and contributors of the home advantage.  We would further like to examine any perceptual differences between both rugby and football officials, and also if there are any cross cultural differences. We are thus sending out details of this survey to officials in the UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
