Who should attend the SmartRugby session?
It is mandatory for all coaches and referees to attend a session once every 2 years. It is the responsibility of the coaches to transfer the knowledge to their players, and the referees to understand the material and apply to the management of games. Players are not required to attend.

Can I attend any SmartRugby session?
The SmartRugby sessions have been organised by geographic area in your State or Territory. Therefore you can attend the session (senior/junior club or school) that is most convenient for you.

What are the benefits of SmartRugby?
- Increase competence of coaches and match officials
- Decrease loss of players through injury
- Higher player moral
- A continuous season - allowing players and teams to improve their performance over an entire season. Injured players can set back the whole team
- Decreased cost for players in terms of medical treatment and time off work, however compensation is never 100%

What resources are available?
Each participant will receive a SmartRugby - Confidence in Contact booklet and a CD-Rom resource which includes practical applications of the program.

What do I wear to SmartRugby sessions?
The course is a practical in nature with the session taking place both indoors and outdoors. Please wear comfortable training attire or clothing which you normally wear for a training session, water, a hat and sunscreen (if required), as well as, a pen and paper to take notes. Please also bring umbrellas and wet weather clothing in case of light rain.

Will the course still be held if it is raining?
An undercover contingency area has been arranged at all locations in the case of inclement weather.

Is the session different for schools, junior and senior clubs?
The basic content in the 2.5 hour session is the same for all levels of Rugby including schools, juniors and seniors clubs. However, components of the course will be adapted to the needs of the participants at individual sessions.

I am an accredited coach, so I still need to attend?
Yes, it is mandatory for all coaches and referees to attend a SmartRugby session once every 2 years, regardless of whether they are accredited or not. SmartRugby is also a pre-requisite to gaining any accreditation level or re-accrediting at any level.

What happens after the course?
After the course coaches are responsible for;
- ensuring that all players participating in Rugby where there is a tackle component are coached in the SmartRugby techniques
- ensuring this transfer of knowledege prior to the first trial or competition match.
- ensuring the prescribed practice time is devoted to contact situations
And referees are responsible for understanding the material and applying their knowledge to ensure the safe management of contact elements within the game.

Who presents the SmartRugby sessions?
State and Territory Unions appoint coaching staff who have advanced knowledge in best practice techniques for Rugby.

Who do the coaches and referees pass this program into?
All players associated with the tackle component of the game, ie. from Mini Rugby and up. Players are to be in-serviced by their coaches prior to their first trial or competition match.
