Making Rugby accessible to all Australians!

Rugby CONNECT aims to ensure that all people, regardless of disability, gender or ethnic background are given the opportunity to participate to their full potential by encouraging increased involvement of these participants - both on and off the field; from playing, coaching, officiating and volunteering in Rugby.

Rugby CONNECT is an extension of the Australian Sports Commission's (ASC) Sports CONNECT program - a key element of Sports CONNECT involves sports organisations working towards the common goal of making sport more inclusive of people with disabilities.

The Rugby CONNECT - Disability Action Plan (DAP) is our plan for making Rugby more inclusive of people with disabilities, and includes initiatives under the folllowing themes.

Introductory Statement of Intent
1. Organisational Commitment, Education and Advocacy
2. Development - Clubs, Coaching & Officiating and Schools
3. Competition and Classification

The Rugby CONNECT DAP provides a framework outlining Rugby's commitment to promoting awareness/ education, development and competition pathways that promote inclusion of people with a disability in Rugby.

This is a great opportunity for the Australian Rugby Community to get behind a worthy initiative that provides:

  • social and health benefits for people with disabilities resulting from involvement in sport, and

  • increased participants, memberships, and greater community connectedness for sporting clubs involving people with disabilities.

The Australian Rugby Union will continue to work with State/Territory Unions and Rugby clubs to investigate the opportunities to include participants with a disability in all aspects of the game.
