Minimum Requirements
Before your child plays a game of rugby the club/school should organise a training or SmartRugby session so that your child is thoroughly prepared for the physical requirements of the game.
It is recommended that players train for a minimum of four sessions prior to playing a game. In these training sessions the coach should concentrate on the appropriate contact aspects of the game including, the tackle for both the tackler and ball carrier, falling to ground with a ball, scrummage (for forwards) and preparation for contact situations including ruck and maul. The coach should also practice the universal 'Mayday' call for safe scrum collapse situations.
Your coach should have attended an Australian Rugby Union accredited coaching course and be an accredited Pathway, Level 1 or Level 2 coach. This means that your coach is aware of best practice procedures, and coaches within the laws of the game.

Each player is required to fill out a registration form so that he/she is covered by the ARU Insurance policy. If your child is under 18 years of age, a guardian/parent is required to counter sign the registration document.
As a safety consideration, no player should participate in a game more than two years above her or his chronological age. Therefore, a nine year old should not be playing in a twelve years fixture, or a fifteen year old should not be playing against an eighteen year old. It is preferred that players play in their own age division.
