Note: It is compulsory for all teams competing in competitions managed by the ARU and/or member unions to participate in the ARU National Insurance Scheme.

 * Walla Rugby Levies:

The ARU will again fund insurance levies for all Walla Rugby (non-tackle version of Rugby) teams across Australia in 2008.

This represents a significant investment in Junior Rugby across Australia. Such investment will minimise the costs associated with recruiting juniors into the introductory game of “Walla Rugby” for both clubs and unions. These savings should be passed onto parents/participants allowing them to participate in “Walla Rugby” at minimum cost.

Policy Improvements:

QBE Insurance has also offered the following Policy improvements to the ARU Sports Injury and Liability Insurance, including:

1.  Capital Benefit 2 (Permanent Quadriplegia or Permanent Paraplegia)- increased from $300,000 to $400,000;

2.  Travel and Accommodation Expenses additional benefit - In summary this covers travel expenses for injured players where they have to travel more than 100kms for medical attention and covers overnight accommodation expenses for parent, spouses, partners etc. for emergency attendance to an injured person.  This benefit is limited to  $150 per day for up to 52 weeks and to $1,000 in total for each injury;

3. Medical Expenses 12 month limitation extension- This has been extended to allow payment of medical expenses beyond the current 12 month limitation where the claim has been notified during the 12 month period and advice from the doctor is received within 12 months of the injury that treatment will be delayed.
